Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka is an American British sitarist and musician. She is the youngest female and the first to be awarded an official British House of Commons shield. Anoushka is a emerging star of Indian sitar. She is the student of Ravi Shankar, and the daughter. Her birthplace was London in 1982. During the first few years of her life she was split between London New Delhi. Her first performance took place at New Delhi when she was thirteen years old. Then she relocated in Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha, who is only a teenager, has had a successful performing and recording career. She often joins her father on stage, which she has been doing for a number of years. In 1998 she released her debut self-titled album Anourag. Her Grammy-nominated Live At Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. She's performed in all important venues across the world. Anoushka isn't just a musician. In 2002 she published a book entitled Bapi The Love of My Live this is a pictorial biography which pays special respect to her dad Ravi Shankar. Also, she appeared in the film "Dance Like a Man" in 2003. The role she played was that of an Bharat Nayam dancer on Dance Like a Man. Anoushka is continuing to advance in her career and we can expect many more things to come from this talented lady. Anoushka shankar is an English born musician who spent her childhood split between London, Delhi and California. Anoushka Shankar started her musical studies at the age of nine. A few years later she played her first music debut with the sitar Delhi at her father's 75th birthday party. Alongside her father, they toured around the globe, Anoushka was able to accumulate a variety of performances at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens, performing in Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival as well as recording with George Harrison. She was the youngest and sole female winner of the House of Commons Shield awarded by the British Parliament in recognition of her musicianship and talent as a preeminent musician of the Asian Arts.
